The Deputy Clerk is a person appointed to act on behalf of the Circuit Clerk as her substitute, or agent, and is empowered to perform certain duties in the Circuit Clerk's name. Lou Lawley was appointed Deputy Clerk by Mary Harris when Mrs. Harris took office in January 1999. In addition to handling the duties of the clerk in her absence, Ms. Lawley is the Chief Magistrate and is personnel manager for the office. She has over 26 years of service in the Clerk's Office.
